Hospice and Palliative Care

Hospice services

CHRISTUS Hospice and Palliative Care offers a special kind of care designed to provide sensitivity and support for people in the final phase of a life-ending illness. Our interdisciplinary team helps patients to carry on an alert, pain-free life, and to manage other symptoms so that they may live each day of their life in dignity, supported by family and friends. An interdisciplinary team takes a holistic, faith-based approach in assessing and addressing the needs of the patient and family.

Our Hospice Team includes:

  • Physicians.
  • Nurses.
  • Home health aides.
  • Chaplains.
  • Social Workers.
  • Therapists.
  • Volunteers.
  • And most importantly, the patient and family!

Hospice services include medications related to the diagnosis, home medical equipment and oxygen. Social workers provide information regarding financial and legal concerns, advance directives and funeral arrangements. Spiritual care, counseling and bereavement services are part of the total care given patients and their families.

Palliative Care

Our interdisciplinary team is available for consultation in providing comfort care throughout the course of treatment.  Special attention is given to:

  • Uncontrolled pain.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Shortness of breath.

We also help with advance directives, family communication, and social or spiritual needs.
Medicare, Medicaid and some private health insurance companies cover CHRISTUS hospice services.
